Careers Options For People Who Love Helping Others

1) Teaching and Education

Education is a field that gives you the opportunity to share knowledge and impart skills to others, whether they are adults or children. Apart from the traditional paths (primary and secondary schools), there are many opportunities to teach children with special needs or at further education colleges. You will need a degree and a further year of hands-on training to qualify as a teacher. However, there are other opportunities like childcare youth work or becoming a teaching assistant. What’s immensely rewarding is to know that you’re helping people develop themselves and that your knowledge has a direct impact on people’s lives.

  2) Nursing and Healthcare

Nursing is a field that is always looking for new members (which means that there won’t be a shortage of job opportunities). Taking up this career will give you the chance to serve others. Apart from the standard hospital jobs available, you could also find yourself working in adult care centers, people’s homes and in a GP surgery, to name a few. To make it easier for people to enter this career, the nursing apprenticeship has been designed. Apart from being a nurse, other career options in this field include pharmacy, midwifery or physiotherapy.

  3) Social Work

This career gives you the chance to interact with some of the most vulnerable people in society. These include people with learning difficulties, adults with mental health issues and elderly people. You might need to get involved in some very challenging situations like working with offenders, child protection or on adoption cases. In order to be a full-time social worker, you’d need a degree. However, there are other options that do not require a degree.

  4) Law

Naturally, you might not associate a career in law with one which helps people. However, there are a few options that allow you to give a voice to people without one. For instance, to support people who have been accused of committing a crime, you can take up a career in criminal defence. To help children in extremely vulnerable situations, you could pick the child protection side of the law. Although barristers and solicitors are the jobs that grab the most attention, there are many entry-level positions too.

To help people and make a significant difference in their lives, you need to be selective about the type of job you’re going for.
